Song of the Week - 02.08.10 - 02.13.10
Halfway Gone by Lifehouse. I have loved Lifehouse for nearly ten years (10 years!!! How is that possible?) now, and one would think that I'd recognize Jason Wade's voice by now. But I heard this song about ten times playing on the radio in Subway before I finally remembered to look up who sung it . . .this is easily my favorite "album first single" from Lifehouse since "Hanging By A Moment" . . . I love singing along with it.

Song of the Week - 02.01.10 - 02.07.10
Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event. I am cheating by making this song the song of the week for the first week in February - this was the song of the YEAR for 2009. It does not get better than this song, which seemed to have a new significance this month.
So there's a change in your emotions
All these memories come rushing like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless and homeless and lost in the haze of the wine . . .
I don't need to even say anymore. You can read what else I had to say about this song on my "Best of 2009 CD" post.

Song of the Week - 01.25.10 - 01.31.10
The '59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem. I first heard this song last year, and liked it right away, but it didn't go past a couple of casual listens until this week, when I finally bought the CD with the same title. The CD was a classic from first listen - I loved it immediately. The lyrics are kind of heartbreaking . . . young boys . . . young girls . . . ain't supposed to die on a Saturday night . . . the song is pretty much amazing.

Song of the Week - 01.17.10 - 01.24.10
Sleepyhead by Passion Pit. I was a little late to the party with this one - I've been a fan of The Reeling for a while, but I hadn't heard Sleepyhead until my friend Pat put it on his 2009 Mix. This song instantly puts me in a good mood. I don't even know what the hell the singer is singing, but everything about it makes me happy. Don't believe me? Listen for yourself!

Song of the Week - 01.10.10 - 01.16.10
Gateway Drug by The Spill Canvas. I've grown to believe that The Spill Canvas can do no wrong. From their lyrics to their album titles ("No Really, I'm Fine" and "Honestly, I'm Doing OK" . . . love it!!) to their live shows, these guys have never disappointed me. Their latest EP, "Abnormalities", is no exception. Gateway Drug is one of only three songs on the album, but I've loved it from the minute it was first released on the Spill Canvas's MySpace page a month or so ago. Can't wait for their next full length.
You are my gateway drug
You pull me down
You mess me up
You are my gateway drug
You give me a taste for the harder stuff
And I don't wanna stop

Song of the Week - 01.03.10 - 01.09.10
Brighter Discontent by The Submarines. Towards the end of the 4th Season Finale of Nip/Tuck, this song is used in a montage, with each of the main characters lip syncing along in their respective locations . . . it was pretty neat. I downloaded the song that same day and it's been on repeat for most of this week - I absolutely love it.

Song of the Week - 12.27.09 - 01.02.10
November Was White, December Was Grey by Say Hi. This song sums up a lot of how I've been feeling for the past couple of months - "Someday soon, when the spring brings the sun, I'll finally sleep, I'll finally feel better when the winter's gone. I'll feel better when the winter's gone." I stumbled across this song by accident when reviewing best of 2009/best of the 2000s music blog posts, and I'm glad I did.
